"BEING PRESENT"
MAY 2007

Greetings!    Amy Holewa

This month we focus on the importance of being present. We've both had some pretty incredible experiences lately while quieting down and "being still." There is such power in the present moment! That is where our answers lie and where our inherent wisdom is waiting for us to tune-in.

The photo below is a cherished picture from an amazing trip we took to the island of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. In the backyard of our inn was this beautiful wooden bench positioned on top of a cliff overlooking the ocean with a beautiful view of St. Thomas. That empty bench called to us every day. Sometimes we sat there together, but most often we took turns and found solitude on our own up there. What an incredible way to simply "be" and allow the present moment to unfold. Sheer beauty, quiet, and awe-inspiring views.

Back home, our task now is to re-create those moments like we had on the bench in Tortola. When life gets busy, that is a tall order. It takes being proactive and taking the initiative to set aside the precious time to slow down, get still, and just be.

What is it in your life that helps you connect with the present moment? For us, it's that solitude on the bench in Tortola. Take the time to find that place in your soul and allow the beauty of the present moment to flow...

In gratitude,
Michelle & Bill Stimpson

Tortola BenchTHE PRESENT MOMENT By Bill Stimpson

"The whole life of man is but a point in time; let us enjoy it."--Plutarch

This quote says it all. There is only one moment in your entire life in which you exist, and that is now. You don't really exist in the past since it's over and done with, and you can't do anything in the future since it hasn't happened yet. Your entire life is nothing but a series of current moments, strung together by the decisions you make and the actions you take, while in this present moment. If you can fully understand this concept then you'll possess a very powerful tool for improving your life: the importance of being present.

I caught my first glimpse of the power of the present moment after learning meditation several years ago. But after nearly ten years of striving toward living in the present, it amazes me that while the concept is really quite simple, it is also rather complex and challenging. Just how does one live in the present moment? I certainly don't claim to have the answer to one of life's great questions, but I will share with you what has worked for me. I could probably write a hundred pages on this topic, but for now I'll stick with some of the key points that have helped me focus on becoming more present.

Gina SwansonCLIENT SUCCESS STORY: By Gina Swanson, Public Relations Consultant, GMS Communications

Have you ever met someone and known almost instantly that this person would change your life? One such person for me was Michelle Stimpson. I was lucky enough to have Michelle as a co-worker "in the corporate world" years ago. So bright, full of wisdom and insight, caring; it was a relationship I knew I would have for a lifetime. We both shared an entrepreneurial spirit. Michelle helped me realize you can make your dreams come true; that when you believe in yourself, set goals and visualize what you want, anything is possible.

She helped me realize my dream. Michelle was by my side five years ago when I started my own public relations business. She helped me focus when I would spread myself too thin. She guided me through questions to discover my "niche" client. She calmed me when I would begin to feel overwhelmed. And all important, we worked on setting goals to help me maintain balance as a business owner. It's so easy to have life become your work when you love what you do! Michelle's insight and commitment to helping others find clarity made a lasting impact on my life-both personally and professionally.
